Decades of Baking Experience
The Heart of Mengisini's
Born from the passion of baking, and the enjoyment of making people smile with delight as they taste the recipes that have been refined over time or handed down from Italian ancestors and perfected by owner and head baker- Theresa "Tree" Mengis-Girdner. Mengisini’s is a celebration of the intentional art of baking. Every sourdough loaf, cookie, and pastry is made from scratch with real ingredients and using techniques that value flavor above all else. I invite you to experience the simple happiness of biting into a delicious fudge brownie, a classic cookie or one of a variety of other delightful fresh baked, homemade treats.

Order your loaves via email at mengisinis@gmail.com by the Thursday before Sourdough Sundays, to allow time for me to prep and bake for you. Then you pick up your order Sunday morning between 9am-12pm.

Specialties
Italian Cookies
Featured at Pop-Up Bakery
I usually add one Italian specialty item to the menu along with the other bakery items, for each Pop-Up Bakery, like these Amaretti- an Italian cookie crafted with ground almonds and whipped egg whites. They have a crispy exterior and soft chewy interior and are naturally gluten free.
Florentines- another Italian cookie with a crispy toffee-like texture and filled with almonds and walnuts.
Italian Sugar Cookies- light almond flavored sugar cookies dusted with sugar.
All of these recipes were handed down to me on my Italian side.
Coffeecakes

Coffeecakes are one of my absolute FAVORITE desserts! They are perfect to eat with a cup of coffee, or a large glass of milk. I love to come up with different flavors, but in the summer prefer to add fresh picked berries to these individual sized cakes. They have a light crumb with either an oat or nut crumble, and the majority are topped with a sweet glaze.
Classic Style Cookies

I love a great cookie and prefer the classic flatter style with a crispy buttery edge and a softer chewy middle. Some of the favorites I bake:
Classic Chocolate Chip,
Ginger Molasses,
Toffee White Chocolate Espresso,
Double Chocolate,
S'More Chocolate Chip,
Cookies and Cream,
Soft Sprinkle,
Iced Spiced Oatmeal
Fudge Brownies

Intensely rich chocolate flavor, dense and fudgy brownies. Brownies are often frosted and topped with a Truffle Ganache.
Mini-Cakes

Mengisini's Mini-Cakes come in a variety of flavors are made from scratch and are frosted in many flavors of buttercream frosting using real butter. Pictured are my Cookie Dough Frosted Chocolate Cakes. The frosting is makes with a baked flour buttercream frosting that tastes like a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough and it sits on top of a moist, chocolate cake.

Common Questions
Everything you need to know about my Pop-Up Bakery and Sourdough Sundays
Are you open every day for business?
No, Mengisini's Italian Bakery is not a traditional bakery with set hours. It is an in-home bakery that I work around my family's schedule with monthly Pop-Up Bakery events where you can come to my stand and purchase the items I have baked for the event. Also I have 2 "Sourdough Sundays" events a month where you can pre-order by Thursday and then come and pick up your pre-ordered loaves of bread on Sunday. All events will be listed in advance in the "Upcoming Events" section.
When is your bakery open?
I host a monthly Pop-Up Bakery event and Sourdough Sunday pre-order pickups. Please review the "Upcoming Events" section for the next dates and times.
Where do you hold your Pop-Up Bakery events?
Pop-Up Bakery events are held at 8510 SW Cedarcrest Street, PDX, unless otherwise indicated. I will post any other locations on my website, Facebook Page and Instagram.
What types of items can I buy at your Pop-Up Bakery?
Typically I have coffeecakes, cookies, mini-cakes, brownies, one Italian specialty item and one item baked with gluten-free flour*. On occasion I will have sourdough scones, sourdough crackers, sweet breads, and other items I have time to bake. For holidays, special events, or themed Pop-Up Bakery events the menu may change for that sale.
*Gluten-free flour items are NOT celiac or gluten-free certified since they are processed in a home that contains wheat flour and other wheat products.
How can I order your sourdough bread?
Orders are taken via email (mengisinis@gmail.com) by Thursday before the posted Sourdough Sunday date. You pick up your order and pay on Sourdough Sunday between the hours of 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM. My sourdough is naturally leavened over 48 hours and freshly baked for Sunday morning pickups, so an order in advance is needed.
What time is Sourdough Sunday pickup?
Pickups are held on the listed Sunday morning between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM at the 8510 SW Cedarcrest Street, PDX location. Please make sure to place your order by Thursday to guarantee a loaf.
